I made these spiral things with staples. I just decided the it would be cool to make something that looked pleasant, like your eye wants to follow the spiral. (Basically it satisfies the eye.) It took me about 15 minutes to get the first shot, but after that it all went by quicker. I like how the spiral looks, its very visually appealing.
I found these weird ring things at my house on Friday, and decided that I would make something out of them for a still life for this class. I am not quite sure what they're called, neither did I have an idea of how to set the things up to make a good picture. I took the camera and put it on a tripod with this other thing that could rotate the camera in any direction, and took these pictures.
When I was sitting at my computer at home, I found myself looking out the window and looking at a spikelet bush, and I thought that maybe I could go outside and get some to use for my still life. Instead of taking scissors to cut them, I ripped them off with my hands, (which, in fact, hurt a little) and left a couple splinters. The set-up was similar to the other still lives, with the camera on a tripod looking down on the still life.
I wanted to do something with candy. At first, I did not know what type of candy to use, but then I remembered about the video that we saw in class about the guy that took cool pictures with objects and arranged them in a way that was appealing. Then I decided that I could to Dum Dums and arrange them in a way that I found as visually satisfying. During the time I took all these photos, the sun was not out but I still managed to get pictures with natural light (it was cloudy).
I mentioned that we watched this video with this guy that arranged objects in an appealing way, and in it was a part with toothpicks. I thought that how the toothpicks were put into place was an interesting approach to still life. I took these toothpicks and made some type of explosion, but not the exact same thing that was in the video. It was challenging to make the toothpicks stay, because if the paper that they were on moved a little, they all jerked away from their original position.
